West Valley Dance Company Opening New Mountain View Studio

Fourth location for the largest dance program in Northern California with over 2,000 dancers

Dance has never been more popular. A growing number of dance programs are generating strong ratings on network television. Dance classes and performances have become activities of choice for many young people, who dance rather than — or in addition to — playing traditional sports such as soccer or volleyball.

To meet the increasing demand for more professional studio classes, performance opportunities and competitive teams, West Valley Dance Company will open its fourth location in a dazzling new 6,600 sq. ft. studio facility located at 1939 El Camino Real in Mountain View in early November.

“The popularity of dance classes and performance opportunities continues to soar,” said Cathy Jelic, executive director of West Valley Dance Company. Jelic is also President and Partner of Action Day Schools, which is where the dance company began in 1975 as an extracurricular program for preschoolers. “One thing that makes our programs different is that many of our leaders have a child development background. This translates into more rewarding experiences for our young dancers.”

State-of-the-art Mountain View Studios

The new Mountain View West location will feature four state-of-the-art studios, including a space designed to accommodate their Acrobatic Arts program. All of the building improvements have been made with the needs of the dancers and their parents in mind — from the WVDC Blue and silver color scheme and top-quality flooring to amenities such as white-tufted sparkly benches in the reception areas and crystal chandeliers. The new Mountain View facility will also feature a photo op area with a star motif, dancers lounge and dressing rooms, and even a boutique where quality merchandise can be purchased as needed.

Already, more than 100 weekly classes are planned for the new Mountain View location, twice that of the existing Mountain View East facility, which will remain open to serve dancers. Competition and performance teams of various ability levels will also be offered to those who would like to elevate their dance experience.

The opening of the new studio facility further strengthens the dance company’s position as the largest program in Northern California with:

• Four studio facility locations

• A total of 18 dance studios — more than 45,000 sq. ft. of studio space

• 10 additional preschool studio locations at Action Day Primary Plus schools

• Over 2,000 dancers enrolled in more than 5,000 classes

• In excess of 540 classes offered each week

Nominated for Prestigious Industry Dance Award

West Valley Dance Company provides classes in ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, lyrical, tap, ballroom, and Acrobatic Arts. Beyond the classes, the company puts on numerous performances every year — from a production-style recital in the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts to dancing in Disneyland’s holiday parade.

Just recently, the company’s senior competition dance team was nominated for one of only 9 performances selected out of a total of 455 in the Best Open/Acro/Ballet Performance category of the highly prestigious Industry Dance Awards.

“We’re so proud of our competition team members, many of whom have gone on to the next ‘stage’ in their academic and dance careers,” Jelic remarked. “It’s gratifying to see so many children start with us in dance at very young ages, and then grow and develop at their own pace and according to their individual interests over the years they’re with our dance company. We’re excited that with the opening of our Mountain View West studio, we can reach even more young people and share the beauty and benefits of dance with the next generation.”
